Sat. Nite Duet’s latest video for their awesome track ‘Genghis Khan’ was just dropped taking place “somewhere on the epic jah compound”.  The video is expected Sat. Nite Duet’s awesomeness including a masked drummer, fully grown facial hair from Andy and a Four Loko bath… oh, and of course Andy flies on a mattress through space.  I just gave a positive review to their album Summer of Punishment and this video only further validates all the praise.

If you look past their incredible talent instrumentally and ability to bring jazz to an all new generation, BADBADNOTGOOD are really just three guys who like to chill on the couch and eat cereal.  Nothing proves this more than the newest video for ‘UWM’ where the guys sit on their couch, listen to some music and eat some cereal.  They even invite their saxophonist friend Leland Whitty and some other dudes to the party.  If you haven’t already go listen to BBNG2.

Just like the recent video from fellow british, lo-fi rockers Best Friends, the newest video from Slowcoaches shows home recorded footage of the band jamming out and having a good time.  ’54’ already sounds like it could be the soundtrack to skateboarding, hanging out with friend on a set of stairs or eating pizza and the video appropriately captures the group doing just those things.  The track is off Slowcoaches recent We’re So Heavy EP which everyone should check out from Tye Die Tapes.

A lovely psychedelic video to accompany the fantastically psychedelic ‘Hizzouse’ coming off Noir Cœur’s new, highly recommended Jahnimal EP.  There is plenty of warped VHS imagery within the video including a surfboarding batman and a running T-Rex.  The director did some nice editing to mesh every clip well with the song itself making the video more than the average VHS collage.

The idea of hip-hop artists trying to bring back the sounds of the “golden age of hip-hop” has pretty much been played to death so an old school reverent track called ‘Hi Top Fade’ just shouldn’t work.  After the track’s first second it’s pretty clear that Mont Brown aren’t content to just try and recreate the past using an incredibly raw, bass heavy beat that Q-Tip would never take on.  Sure, the track’s verses by Pace-O Beats, Chill Moody and Theodore Grams all have shout-outs to Tribe Called Quest, Nas and Snoop but they aren’t trying to ignore the past decade of hip-hop either.  The standout verse comes from Theodore Grams who sounds comfortable and effortless over the huge beat, able to pay his respect to 90s greats while still establishing his own personality.  And of course the hook is pretty hard to forget too, “who’s that bumping in your boombox?”

Best Friends have exactly the spring jam I need to get me through the mixed results of hearing back from colleges with their track ‘Break My Neck’.  It’s impossible to stay in a any sort of bad mood once the guitar lick comes in and the band starts jamming out in perfectly sloppy harmony.  The song never slows down it’s irresistibly sunny-pace and the singer stuffs in enough “woo’s” to get the song stuck in your head for days.  The video only mirrors the band’s carefree attitude with the guys grilling, playing sweet tunes and generally having a good time.

The newest entry in the growing amount of spliced and warped VHS videos is this short stunner for I Come to Shanghai’s ‘Tied Down’.  Like most videos in this style, there is no plot to follow.  Instead, the video provides a gorgeous backdrop for an already gorgeous song.  Considering that ‘Tied Down’ doesn’t even pass the 1:30 minute mark the directors approach is appropriate.  ‘Tied Down’ comes off the groups new release Eternal Life Vol. II which is streaming over at their bandcamp.

Sigur Rós just announced that they will be dropping Valtari, their first album since 2008, along with the first single and video ‘Ekki múkk’.  The song has everything that we’ve all come to expect from Sigur Rós, beautiful Icelandic vocals, swelling, orchestral instrumentation and an amazing sense of size and emotion.  It’s the kind of song that not many other bands can pull off and the subtly beautiful video matches the song’s incredible amount of anticipation.  It is probably the most entertaining video of a slow, floating boat you’ll see today.  Valtari drops 5/28.

One Danny Brown has enough personality and style to make him one of the most interesting and talented rappers making music today. In the video for Danny Brown’s ‘Radio Song’, one of Brown’s cleverest attacks on the music industry, we get an entire crew of Danny Brown’s.  Considering how hip-hop videos usually show the rapper surrounded by girls, money, drugs and all other forms of decadence it’s pretty entertaining to see Brown in a Ramones t-shirt and some skinny jeans.

Although most people probably could have accurately described exactly what the music from a band called Teenanger would sound like ‘Frights’ was still a surprisingly good listen.  ‘Frights’ and the video display the Canadian-based group with a fully realized aesthetic that takes most bands a while to establish.  Their own brand of frenetic punk definitely falls close to Joy Division (on the punk-spectrum… duh) but it has enough personality to pull the band from sounding faceless.  Check out more Teenanger over at Telephone Explosion
