Most buzzing rappers these days make it after one of their videos goes viral on the blogosphere and is able to show off their unique style and image.  Now the incredibly talented Vince Staples has his own ‘Purple Swag’/‘Yonkers’ with this video for ‘Matlock’.  Listening to Vince’s deadpan and rich flow is paired perfectly with the grainy, black and white style of this video.  The dark vibe of the video is taken even further as a clips of riot footage are projected on to Vince and Michael.  Shyne Coldchai Vol. 1 has already proved Vince to be one of the best rappers making music right now, hopefully this video will help more people realize it.

Royal Headache is one of the more notable lo-fi bands to rise up in the past few months with some killer Guided By Voices inspired singles.  Apparently Pitchfork has also taken notice of the Australian group having just premiered their video for ‘Girls’.  The video is everything we’d hope and expect from a group like Royal Headache with plenty of grainy shots of the guys having a good time…. (kinda like this and this).  It’s hard not to imagine how much fun it would be to tour with these guys.

I’ve been on a huge Main Attrakionz binge lately having recently discovered just how awesome their 808s and Dark Grapes II mixtape is, so I was very excited to see that the duo had teamed up with Western Tink and Shady blaze over a new Beautiful Lou beat.  Beautiful Lou recently hit it big with everyone’s favorite new polarizing hip-hop track, so it’s nice to hear his beat taken on by some rappers that no one can argue about.  The video has the entire crew hanging out and generally looking pretty swagged out.  Western Tink hasn’t had the exposure that he’s deserved quite yet so I’m sure that this track will spread the good word more, look out for his upcoming mixtape Mobbin No Sobbin.

I stopped myself from re-watching a video by the latest polarizing “rapper” (who’s name is already big enough on the blogosphere) to watch this new video from Danny Brown that has me easily and uncontroversial won over.  How could a track like this go wrong?  With Detroit’s hottest current rapper over a beat from Detroit’s most legendary producer, ‘Jay-Dee’s Revenge’ is as good as it promises it should be.  J Dilla’s musical influence is everywhere in music these days so hearing an actual original beat from him reminds me just why an album like Donuts is untouchable.  Danny Brown doesn’t hold back at all either.  Considering how he can even pull of a track that is… uplifting, I wouldn’t have been too surprised if Brown had decided to tackle the Dilla beat with restraint.  Instead, we get the full force of the same Danny Brown that made XXX one of the best mixtapes of last year.  Respect for Detroit.

XXYYXX has been gaining a huge amount of buzz since we first started digging his atmospheric jams.  With the buzz, apparently, has come a gorgeous video for his standout track ‘About You’.  ‘About You’ works so well as a track because it plays well with the dynamics of the different main vocal samples.  Director J Vash convey’s that contrast with stunning hi-def shots of girls exhaling smoke which turns out to be equally as entrancing as it is haunting.

Of all the amazing lo-fi bands sprouting up in the UK right now, Splashh may just be my favorite.  If their track ‘Headspins’ didn’t already convince you, ‘All I Wanna Do’ is another sun-soaked slice of lo-fi punk with plenty of pop thrown in that should convert anyone to the Splashh fan club.  Regardless of what you think of the video (with the band do their best Strokes impression), Splashh writes great jams that send fuzzy sonic waves to our musical pleasure sensors.  Just try to resist not humming along with the chorus.
