The Up-Turn

Like most people, I always associate chill-wave pioneer Neon Indian as a solo project of Alan Palomo so it is weird to see just how much of a band the project is.  With a drummer, a bassist, and two additional synth players, Palomo performed a 20-minute set at the Seattle station to a very giddy DJ El Toro.  In the performance they hit on my favorite tracks from Era Extraña and Psychic Chasms and do an all around good (not quite as amazing as some other bands) job.  It really is amazing seeing the band tediously recreate all the intricate noises that some other artists would be content to create by just clicking play on their macbooks.
