The Up-Turn

@TheUpTurnMusic /

Childish Gambino seems to be on a non-stop journey to win over the hearts of every hip hipster out there.  His first move was remixing such indie staples as Grizzly Bear’s ‘Two Weeks’ and Animal Collective’s ‘My Girls’.  The latest move, and one that will most likely be successful, is naming his latest EP after the much beloved cult TV series Freaks and Geeks.  If that hasn’t won you over yet a full listen to the EP most likely will.  Even though some people have criticized Glover as being a novelty act this EP shows that he is committed to his rap game and is willing to do whatever he can to prove he is more than a comedian with a few clever lines (another bonus is Glover has seemed to restrain what has sometimes been a grating voice).  The EP is filled with references that will probably appeal to fans of Das Racist as I have picked up shout-outs to Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, Arcade Fire, Minority Report and Pitchfork.  Stream and download below.
