Ultra-hipster and all around blog favorite Theophilus London dropped his Lovers Holiday EP today and the first leak from the release shows off London’s smooth and classy side.  Why Even Try? is an incredibly easy-going and nostalgic hip-hop song that recalls the golden-days of rap.  The track features vocals from Sara Q. of the band Tegan and Sara and her vocals add a great effect to the music.  Theophilus London is set to become a really big artist in the near future as he garners praise from both mainstream and independent media sources and is definitely one of the more exciting hip-hop acts today.

As my first real introduction to Cold Cave, The Great Pan is Dead serves its job not only captivating me instantly but also exciting me for their sophomore LP set to release later this year.  The Great Pan is Dead explodes with the kind of romantic passion that I fell in love with in Crystal Castles/Robert Smith colab from last year.  All the instruments swell into a suitably epicly sized chorus that feels like an instant classic from the very first listen.  Wesley Eisold’s vocals are filled with personality and emotion and recall the great vocal styles of New Order, Pulp and The Cure.  It is easily one of the most stunning and effective tracks I have heard this year so stream it below.
