The Up-Turn

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart have done a great job establishing their own sound in an environment filled with similar artists and musicians.  Although I wasn’t immediately blown away by their sound they have definitely grown on me.  Their 2009 self-titled debut was critically acclaimed yet I looked over it initially.  New material from the band however has really got me interested in the new album they are prepping Belong.  Don’t let the title of the song fool you, the Pains aren’t remaking the same music that got them popular in 2009.  This song has a punk-rock feel as it features distortion fed guitars and a pounding drum line.  Of course Kip Berman’s vocals are still soft and sweet and the synths all bubble so it is still uniquely a Pains song.  Stream below (via PMA).
